Green Procurement
Operation of green procurement in Israel
In order to allow the government ministries to meet the proposed targets for public green procurement, a government decision no. 1057 and its amendment no. 5090 was approved, setting goals in the field of the Green procurement.
In accordance with the government decision, each of the government ministries must ascertain that of its total annual expenses of ministry purchases, the rate of annual expenditure through green tenders is as detailed below:
- On the year 2013: 5%
- Until the end of the year 2016: 12%
- Until the end of the year 2020: 20%
Since the approval of the government decision, the Procurement Administration acted in the assimilation of new “green tenders”. As a result of this activity, the government ministries can use a great number of tenders that have environmental aspects such as: computers, television screens, computer screens, projectors, table scanners and paper. In addition, it is the intention of the Procurement Administration to conduct a number of procurement moves through which it will apply to obtain innovative solutions which provide an environmental benefit, and which are not in current existence in the market, in order to encourage its development in Israel or its introduction to the market in Israel.
