Freedom of information at Government Procurement

Government procurement is a key support of ministries operations, which is undertaken through contracts with suppliers, subject to the Mandatory Tenders Law. The main challenge facing the government in the matter of procurement is how to ensure that a transparent and equitable process is upheld while simultaneously ensuring efficiency and enable the government to function.

The Government Procurement Authority at the Office of the Accountant General publishes an annual report on ministries' procurement data. This report makes it possible to study ministries' procurement processes and scope, including the entering into of tender-exempt contracts, subject to the Mandatory Tenders Law and its regulations. The Office of the Accountant General attaches great importance to transparency and public access to information. Therefore, in addition to the aforesaid reports, the Freedom of Information Unit at the Ministry of Justice, in coordination with the senior deputy accountant general and the Accounting and Reporting Division Administration have published a binding procedure for ministries and their subordinate units for the publication of their contracts. The unit's website publishes the quarterly gross reports on contracts of ministries and their subordinate units.
